SPP2100 Final Symposium: Six Years of Collaboration and Innovation in Soft Robotics

From April 9 to 11, 2025, the symposium for the DFG-funded Priority Program 2100 (SPP2100), focusing on “The Future of Soft Robotics” took place in Hannover.

Over the past six years, the SPP2100 on “Soft Material Robotic Systems” has been coordinated by the match. During the symposium, research findings from the 16 projects within the SPP2100 were showcased. The event attracted international experts and guests from across the globe, eager to engage in discussions and collaborations.

The symposium covered a diverse range of topics, including innovative materials for soft robotics and advances in the design, modeling, and control of compliant robotic systems. As the second funding period of the program reaches its conclusion, participants also explored future research directions and potential funding opportunities.

Among the keynote speakers was Professor Jamie Paik, director of the Reconfigurable Robotics Lab at EPFL, recognized for being a pioneer in soft robotics and for the development of robogamis: foldable, adaptable and sustainable robots. On the same day, Professor Helge Wurdemann was also a keynote speaker. He is a researcher and professor at University College London (UCL), expert in soft robotic manipulators, with outstanding applications in the medical field and in improving human-robot interaction. On the final day, the keynote speaker was Professor Perla Maiolino, Associate Professor in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and member of the Oxford Robotics Institute, whose work focuses on advanced robotics research.

All the presentations offered innovative and high-level perspectives in the field of robotics, standing out for the quality of their contents and the visionary approach of each researcher. The talks were extremely enriching, generating great interest among attendees and fostering dialogue on the most relevant advances in soft robotics and emerging technologies.

The event was a tremendous success, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all guests and project partners for their enthusiastic participation and valuable contributions.
