Fellowships enable intensive, long-term project-based collaboration between researchers from both domestic and foreign institutions. Although Mercator Fellows are on-site for only part of the project, they remain in contact with the project team members once their research stay is over. Fellowships are awarded for at least three and for no more than six months. Benefits of the program include a monthly payment according to personnel rates of the DFG, travel expenses, the title Mercator Fellow, and access to the alumni network.
Target groups:
Mercator Fellows are personalities with a distinct academic or public profile who are eager to work on a self-initiated research or practice-oriented project that is connected to the themes and areas of action of the Stiftung Mercator. The program is open to applicants from all nationalities and backgrounds. Substantial academic or work experience and relevant qualifications in the field of soft material robotic systems are required. A Mercator Fellowship is not intended to support students at Bachelor’s or Master’s level, and is not awarded as a doctorate or postgraduate scholarship.
Application process:
Interested applicants (Post Doc or Professor level) should inform themselves here on the website about participating projects and define where they can best contribute with their experience and expertise. Applicants should then contact the respective project and define a possible collaboration based on a research topic. Applications for Mercator fellowships are then submitted by email to SPP2100@match.uni-hannover.de. Complete applications will be bundled and forwarded to the German Research Foundation after the application deadline (18.04.2023), where they will be reviewed by the respective department.
